Interview- Priscila Reis- Luiza of Stupid Wife
We exclusively interviewed actress Priscila Reis, who has been a huge success as Luiza, one of the main characters in the highly successful webseries Stupid Wife.
Besides being an actress, Priscila Reis has an extensive career as an international model and has acted in productions such as Espelho da Vida, Verdades Secretas, Lucia Mc Cartney, Amor sem Igual, Cama de Gato, (Life Mirror, Secret Truths, Lucia Mc Cartney, Incomparable Love, and Cat’s Cradle, respectively, in free translation) Special 220volts Paulo Gustavo, among others.
The Stupid Wife webseries is produced by Ponto Ação Produções (independent producer) and based freely on the Fifth Harmony fanfic by author Nathália Sodré, which has more than nine million reads on Wattpad. You can watch the first season episodes by clicking the link HERE
Firstly, Priscila, congratulations on the huge success of Stupid Wife webseries. You are rocking the role of Luiza. We wish you much more success in your career and life!
PR: First I would like to thank you for the affection and also for this interview space. For a job as an actress and for the series, such visibility is very important! Thanks!
In our questions, we will talk about Stupid Wife and a little bit about your career.
1) What is it like for you to be part of a webseries that is based on a hugely successful fanfic like Stupid Wife? Could you tell us a little about the filming process? And what are the differences between it and productions aimed at television?
PR: I confess that before starting the SW preparation process, I had no idea about this world of fanfics. I’m still learning about everything, but I’m fascinated! Specially about SW, which, from the messages I receive, was part of many people’s adolescence. It’s a story that the public has a lot of affection for,
and I feel very grateful to have started off on the right foot!
The filming process, for being an independent producer, we joke that it was done in the “guerrilla”. That is, everyone helps in all areas, whether helping with the costumes, the audio… The recordings end up being longer because we have fewer days to record due to the costs.
The difference is that television and cinema end up having a bigger structure, there are more professionals on the set, so more people collaborate so that the scene is done more quickly.
2) Stupid Wife is being a huge success. Despite that you already have a career with several participations in television, theater, commercials, shorts and movies, how is the recognition of this journey as actresses for you?
PR: You see, I don’t think any work I’ve done so far has brought me such great affection and recognition from the public. It’s been really nice to see how the public gets emotional with Luiza or even resents her because of her relationship with Valentina. As an actress, being able to feel this has encouraged me a lot, giving me more and more desire to study, keep striving, doing my best in this job.
3) You have an extensive career as an international model what are the biggest lessons you learned and use in your acting career?
PR: I’m very grateful for the opportunity I had to travel the world at such a young age, I think it gave me a great insight and fulfilment in life. I spent many moments alone or with people very different from me, and it made me get to know myself better and also learn to deal with this “other”, this other person… this certainly gave me tools to understand the characters, to understand that nothing is rigid, nobody is 100% just one layer… regardless of culture, language, we are unique, but some feelings are universal. Homesickness, love, anger, sadness, fear… I use this to observe and put mannerisms, depth in my characters.
4) In Stupid Wife, Luíza suffers from a recent memory loss. In this case, 6 years. What would it be like for you if it were the opposite? If Valentina had lost her memory and Luiza had to help recover it?
PR: hahahahahahha we would sugarcoat for Valentina! Just kidding.
There’s a meme going on on Twitter that we’re passing sugarcoating for Luiza in the scenes where she rejects Valentina.
You see, I never thought about it that way, but I think that as Valentina was always in love with Luiza and that’s the reason they bickered in their youth… I think that if she had lost her memory, the conflicts would undoubtedly be different, without this rejection that Lu has.
5) In Stupid Wife, the synopsis is very similar to the comedy movie “50 First Dates” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, but unlike it, Stupid Wife is a drama series. For you, is it easier to act in comedy or drama? Has the second season already been recorded? In all, how many seasons were thought of to tell the story of Luiza and Valentina?
PR: To play Lu, I watched this and two other films with this theme, they helped a lot in building her. I don’t think I feel much difference to act in drama or comedy, the difference for me is the script. Be it drama, comedy, romance… a good script delivers everything for us actors to have the resources to work well.
We haven’t shot season 2 yet but we’re hoping it will be soon!
As for other seasons besides these two (actually the second one hasn’t even been confirmed yet, LOL, spoilers here), it will depend a lot on the public’s will to continue enjoying our story!
6) Ponto Ação Produções is an independent production company, but it has achieved great success and repercussion, even more now with Stupid Wife. What is it like for you to be part of it? Do you already have other projects with them?
PR: For me, working with two WOMEN directors (Priscilla Pugliese and Natalie Smith) who managed to break the market bubble, gaining space within the internet with the production company and having this reach is really an honor. I’m very happy that they trusted my work, believed in me to bring Luiza to life!
I don’t have any other projects with them yet, we are still too immersed in the world of Stupid Wife.
7) And for you, what is the role of women in audiovisual?
PR: Very important! Hehehe I think I I got ahead of myself and answered above. But I think it’s a place of VOICE.
We need to have a voice as a whole and I think audiovisual has the chance to take it to many people. So we – actresses, producers, directors, technicians and women professionals from all over this area – need to use this as a way to communicate our rights and our demands within a society that is still very sexist.
8) Could you tell us a little about your new projects? What are your next dreams that you hope to fulfill soon? With Stupid Wife opening more doors for you, where would you like to act more cinema, TV, streaming or theater?
PR: I did a series for Netflix “every day the same night” that is about Nightclub KISS, which launches now in January. Directed by a wonderful female director, Júlia Resende. I also participated in a feature film directed by her and just went to Gramado Festival Cinema I’m completely in love with my job in general, so whether it’s cinema, series, theater, soap opera or webseries, I’m available and willing! I think everything is an opportunity to learn more and more.
9) Could you leave a message for the followers of Nerd Tatuado? And indicate a movie, a series and a book?
